Windgalls

Articular windgalls are an enlargement of the fetlock joint capsule and non-articular windgalls are an enlargement of the digital flexor tendon sheath.

Windgalls arise as more fluid and pressure forms in the joints than is normal.

Can Equissage help with windgalls?

Yes.

As what is known as a bursal swelling, Equissage is very effective in helping manage windgalls treatment. Although windgalls tend to be considered more of a blemish, obviously the swelling has occurred for a reason and that equates to minor joint damage (articular) or a sprain (non-articular). Regular use of the Equissage will help disperse excess fluid and by promoting good circulation of the blood and drainage systems, this will help the ligaments, tendons and bone to function as normally as possible.

Application

For windgalls treatment, targeted daily use of the Hand Unit or use of the Tendon Boot, ideally in conjunction with the Pad, will keep the fluid build up under control. The setting for the Hand Unit should be higher rather than lower so as to really move the fluid out of the joint capsule or tendon sheath as the case may be; a 5-10 minute treatment will be sufficient. If using the Hand Unit, try and keep it still rather than moving it around.
